Tips
Guest information
Well thought-out guest communication is an essential part of your sustainability strategy. You can find out how to do this here.
- Provide exciting information about food and beverage offerings.
- Focus on relevant information, such as food production methods, sourcing strategies, calories and nutritional information, working conditions, animal welfare, environmental impact, etc.
- Design informative food tags on the buffet with the main ingredients of the dishes, this avoids “tasting” and therefore waste. In addition, display dietary and allergy information in accordance with current legislation and label vegan/vegetarian, organic and Fairtrade products.
- Display ingredients from regional and local producers by purchasing radius (distance kilometers from the hotel).
- Provide additional information on the tables. In the dining room or, if available, on digital displays.
- Use “storytelling.” For example, name specific farmers and point out growing methods such as organic production – tell a story about your food. Show your guests how the products help local people by for example keeping local farming traditions alive or reducing the carbon footprint associated with food miles.
- Inform your guests in a positive way. Your guests are on vacation and want to enjoy their stay. Therefore, it is very important to create a positive environment. Do not exaggerate or dramatise: your guests should neither feel guilty nor associate their culinary experience with negative emotions.
- Organise special food weeks/days as part of your communication strategy.
